I am a maker & mohair bear artist. I create old fashioned, traditional style teddy bears from mohair fabric and local wool. My bears are made with the intention to inspire inner courage and hope. Though I’m not (yet) fully comfortable calling myself an “artist”, I do approach my life with an artist’s curiosity and a head always overflowing with too many ideas and dreams.
I make my bears in my little studio – atelier (in French) – in the spare room of our council house. We live in SW France in a valley in the Pyrénées and I can see mountains from my window. Outside my atelier, the house is often noisy, messy and chaotic – just as you can imagine the house of a young growing family. Inside my atelier, I try to keep things ordered and tidy. It’s my quiet sanctuary, my place of creative restoration. There is often mess on my table whilst working, bear making can require a lot of space and spreading out. But I always try and tidy up as soon as I’ve finished, or as close to that as I can.
I am currently in the process of setting up as officially self employed with the intention to start selling my bears, and perhaps other items slowly and mindfully made from local wool. All being well, I will be ready to launch my first collection of bears this coming autumn, in December 2022.
In the meantime, you can follow me on Instagram & Pinterest “like” my Etsy shop & sign up to my newsletter, that I fondly call “Bear Post“ to be amongst the first to learn when I will be ready to open my shop!
